On Monday, April 14, thirteen students from the Van Buren Tech Law Enforcement program visited the Michigan State Police Training Academy for a hands-on,

behind-the-scenes experience.

Throughout the day, students participated in a morning physical training session, learned about water safety and rescue techniques in the training tank, and practiced simulated rescues. They also observed a K-9 demonstration featuring Champ, who successfully searched for lost property.

The group watched MSP recruits in formation, toured the academy’s living quarters, and experienced the pursuit driving track alongside MSP driving instructors.

A special highlight of the visit was finding a photo of Trooper Matt Whitman, now Van Buren Tech’s Student Achievement Coach, from his time at the academy.

This field trip gave students valuable insight into the demands of academy training and introduced them to different career opportunities with the Michigan State Police.
